With this square-format work, Medsan pits two icons who are complete opposites: Superman, DC Comics' Man of Steel created by Siegel and Shuster, and Hulk, Marvel's embodiment of rage born from the pen of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. The mashup does not merely bring them together; it makes them tilt into a visual language that belongs to neither universe, that of the hammered copper panel, punctuated by cloud swirls directly borrowed from ukiyo-e prints. Two American mythologies treated like a votive relief coming from Asia.

The image simulates a large patinated copper panel, where the figures seem pushed outward from the inside of the metal. On the left, Superman darts diagonally, cape unfurled, right fist raised above the shoulder; on the right, Hulk responds with arm raised, clenched jaw, ripped shorts, in a posture of brute force. Between them, the space explodes: cracked concrete slabs suspended, arabesques of spiraling smoke, and at the bottom the silhouette of New York — Empire State Building, Chrysler Building — reduced to tiny towers beneath the fight. The palette is almost monochrome, warm copper carved with dark greens in the hollows, and red appears only in three places: the cape, the S emblem, and the cartouche メドサン signed bottom left. The X-shaped composition continually directs the eye to the center, where the two fists will meet.

By freezing this duel in the commemorative panel aesthetic, Medsan treats the superheroes for what they have become: the deities of a contemporary pantheon. Order against chaos, will against instinct, carved as battles of the gods once were carved on temple doors. The tiny city below reminds us who always pays the bill for these legendary clashes.
