With this square-format artwork, Medsan confronts Goldorak — the UFO Robot Grendizer imagined by Go Nagai in 1975 — with the blue-and-white Japanese porcelain from Arita and the art of kintsugi. The robot’s helmet is reassembled into ceramic fragments, joined by golden veins that simulate gold repair of shattered ceramics. The cartouche メドサン signs the lower right corner, in yellow, like an atelier seal.

The mask is framed head-on, frontal and monumental, detached from a deep black background that isolates it as a showroom object. The two large curved horns, in a gold-imitating hue, open the composition with a wingspan, while the red crest and silvery tips close the silhouette upward. Each facial plate bears a different motif — plum blossoms, stylized clouds, arabesques, geometric friezes, touches of iron red borrowed from Imari — so that the gaze moves from fragment to fragment before returning to the two yellow eyes, the only bright spots on the face.

The mashup rests on a simple, formidable idea: apply to the invincible hero a philosophy of breaking. Kintsugi does not hide the crack; it underscores it with gold and makes it the most beautiful part of the object. Goldorak, a survivor of the destroyed planet Vega, becomes here literally what he was symbolically — a glued-together figure, whose power comes through the lines of rupture. The 1970s children's television meets the aesthetics of wabi-sabi, without one mocking the other.
