With this square-format work, Medsan brings Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's Little Prince into Gustav Klimt's golden age period. The child from asteroid B 612 takes the place of the figures of the Vienna Secession, wrapped in a cloak covered with spirals, checkerboards and stylized eyes directly borrowed from the vocabulary of The Kiss and The Tree of Life. The tale from 1943 and Vienna in 1908 answer each other in a single image, united by what they have in common: ornament as the language of feeling.

The boy stands on a small midnight-blue planet, aligned with the bottom of the composition, his hand reaching toward a red rose raised on its stem — the only warm, vivid note in the entire image, and the only thing he barely looks at, as if he were already leaving. His scarf stretches to the right in long pale ribbons that cross the field and carry the gaze out of the frame. Around him swirls a sky of spirals, line-drawn constellations, crescent moons and seeds of stars, in a palette limited to three values: deep blue, ivory and a bright yellow that imitates Klimt’s gold leaf. The cartouche メドサン, at the bottom right, signs the scene like an emblem seal.

The mashup says one simple, grave thing: the child who possesses a rose and an extinguished volcano is richer than the businessman who counts the stars. By draping him in the most sumptuous gold of art history, Medsan makes visible that inner wealth — attachment rather than possession.
