Karl Lagasse, a renowned artist, gained prominence in 2009 with his One Dollar sculptures, ranking among the top ten under-30 sculptors according to Artprice in the same year. In 2012, the New York publication Farameh identified him as one of the fifty best contemporary artists, inspired by traditional American icons, in its volume FOR WHICH IT STANDS: Americana in Contemporary Art. More recently, in 2016, during the Art Paris Art Fair, the President of the French Republic warmly praised Karl for his impressive 2-meter bronze sculpture One Dollar, exhibited at the Grand Palais.

Karl's artistic journey began at age 7 with collage, spurred by his meeting with sculptor César Baldaccini. He later approached tagging and graffiti in the Paris metro, remaining passionate about collage. The artist Yvaral Vasarely encouraged him to fuse his tags with collages. In 2003 Karl prepared his first show in Paris, which led to a first solo exhibition in 2006 at the Isy Brachot gallery in Brussels. In 2008 he returned to Paris with a show that united paintings, sculptures and video elements within the Espace Pierre Cardin.

Karl especially loves showing his works at international exhibitions. In 2011 he was represented by Bel Air Fine Art at the Art Monaco fair with his Cryptogram One creation. The following year he presented his One Dollar works on the theme “In God We Trust” at the Artco France gallery. His 2016 solo show at Atrium Gallery in Marbella, Spain, was inaugurated by the mayor, who praised his work before international press.

In 2010 he was chosen to represent Deauville at the Horsemania world equestrian championship in Lexington, where he created a horse sculpture dedicated to the event. In 2012 he donated to Deauville his Cryptogram One sculpture, a symbolic bronze of peace and love, located at the city entrance. In the same year, in collaboration with Corbis, he created a monumental sculpture for the Cannes Festival using photographs from 1945 to 2011, signed by personalities such as Alexandra Lamy and Matthew McConaughey.

The artist gained notoriety in 2009 with his “One Dollar” sculptures, which placed him among the world’s top ten under-30 sculptors according to Artprice.

In 2017 he was selected to design the trophies for the 43rd American Film Festival. Inspired by “Cryptogramme One,” he created a fusion aluminum trophy with a mirrored finish, bearing messages such as “Hope,” “7e Art,” and “Deauville” on its four faces. For the 46th edition of the Festival in 2020, Karl Lagasse was commissioned to make a new trophy inspired by a symbolic emblem of Deauville: the drawing of the barrier rails separating the cabines on the Planches.

In 2016, France Culture mentioned Karl in an article about his monumental installation, A Piece of Heaven on Earth, which combines a Maserati wrapped in white plastic and a statue of Jesus surrounded by dollar-shaped sculptures, symbolizing human debt. This work was unveiled during Art Paris Art Fair 2015 in collaboration with Maserati. In 2017 he created the trophy for the Deauville American Film Festival, drawing inspiration from his Cryptogramme One and adding messages such as “Hope” and “7e Art” on the trophies.
