Umph
Acrylic on paper, set of four, 42 × 29.7 cm each (A3), 2026
Umph is a set of four intuitive works exploring the impulse beneath motion — the internal push that precedes action rather than follows reflection. Rendered in loose, ink-like linework over dense fields of colour, each piece was developed without a predetermined outcome, allowing gesture and rhythm to dictate form.
While each work stands independently, the four share a common visual vocabulary — restless mark-making, saturated palette, and a tension between control and release — that binds them as a single body of work rather than four discrete pieces.
The series continues the artist's ongoing interest in spontaneity and the physical presence of paint as a direct conduit for feeling, extending a practice built on colour as both structure and emotion.

Every gesture, hesitation, rhythm, fracture, and layer carries something lived, even when nothing literal is being depicted.
The paintings are not self-portraits in image, but in energy. Instinctive, emotional, contradictory, unresolved, human.
What matters is not where the artist comes from, but whether the work reaches something recognisable beyond language: tension, vulnerability, movement, silence, longing, release.
The paradox remains: the work is not about the artist, yet the artist is entirely inside it.
