Description from the seller
Vintage Mid-Century Modern Japanese Ceramic Table Lighter (Circa 1950s–1960s)
Description:
A beautiful mid-century modern ceramic table lighter, marked "Japan" on the base. The glazed white ceramic body features a classic, softly rounded shape. One side presents a minimalist, abstract landscape in wash blue and rust orange, while the reverse reveals a delightful surprise: a charming, hand-painted waterbird gliding peacefully across the water. The bird is beautifully detailed in soft hues of violet, earthy green, and rust, perfectly complementing the serene aesthetic of the piece. Fitted with a gleaming gold-tone/brass semi-automatic push-down lighter mechanism, this is an excellent, whimsical display piece that captures the essence of mid-century Japanese export design.
Details:
Origin: Japan
Era: Circa 1950s–1960s
Material: Glazed ceramic/porcelain, brass/gold-tone metal. The artwork features genuine hand brushwork rather than a stamped or printed decal transfer.
Style: Mid-Century Modern / Minimalist
Mechanism: Semi-automatic fluid lighter
Condition:
Excellent vintage condition. The ceramic body is beautifully preserved with no chips or cracks, and the brass hardware shows no notable wear. The pressing mechanism works smoothly and mechanically functions as intended; however, please note that it has not been filled with lighter fluid or fully tested to see if it produces a flame.
