Description from the seller
MANFRED LINUS KREINER (1926–2005)
Title: John F. Kennedy & Adolfo López Mateos — Under a rain of confetti, Mexico, 1962
DESCRIPTION:
Magnificent photograph by Manfred Linus Kreiner in Mexico City, June 29, 1962, during the state visit of President John F. Kennedy to Mexico, at the invitation of Mexican President Adolfo López Mateos.
The photograph captures the two presidents in the presidential open-top car, at the heart of the official procession through the streets of Mexico City. John F. Kennedy and Adolfo López Mateos stand, saluting the crowd, while the U.S. Secret Service agents provide their close protection.
A true downpour of millions of confetti envelops the car and transforms the scene into a striking spectacle. The welcome extended to Kennedy by the Mexican people was exceptional and particularly warm, far exceeding the American president’s expectations.
Through its close framing, Kreiner conveys the intensity of the moment, with the two presidents at the center of the image, surrounded by their security detail, journalists and a crowd gathered along the route. The profusion of confetti gives this photograph a spectacular and instantly recognizable dimension.
This photograph belongs to the The Kennedy Years corpus by Manfred Kreiner, rediscovered from the original negatives kept in the archives of the photographer’s estate.
