Description from the seller
This watercolour shows a Dutch canal with a small bridge and a ship. Signed bottom right.
The painting was created by Wilhelm Alexander Knip (Amsterdam, January 31, 1883 – Blaricum, October 28, 1967), a Dutch painter and draftsman. He settled in 1905 in the artist's village of Laren and in the twenties spent some time in France, Italy and Spain. From 1934 he lived in Blaricum. Knip is regarded as one of the important painters of the Larense School. He painted, watercoloured, and drew with pastel chalks, mainly harbour and cityscapes and landscapes. In addition, he was a member of Arti et Amicitiae, the Artists' Association Sint Lucas, and the Gooische Schildersvereniging. He exhibited several times and received, among others, the Sint-Lucas Prize (1942) and the Arti Medal (1953).
