Antoni Tàpies, Les Ciseaux, 1978, etching with aquatint and blind emboss on wove paper, signed by hand, Hors Commerce edition H/C, 90 × 63 cm, in excellent condition, made in Spain, sold by owner or dealer.
Description from the seller
Exceptional original graphic work by the celebrated Catalan artist Antoni Tàpies (1923–2012), a fundamental reference in international informalism and matter art.
Title: Les Ciseaux (The Scissors)
Technique: Etching with aquatint and embossing (blind relief) on heavy wove paper, enriched with black graphic interventions (Pencil/Wax).
Signed: Hand-signed in pencil by the artist in the lower right corner: tàpies.
Edition: Inscribed in the lower right margin as H.C. (Hors Commerce / Outside of commerce). An impression reserved for the artist, printer or publisher, unrelated to the numbered commercial edition of 75 copies.
Iconography: Scissors constitute one of the most emblematic everyday symbols in Tàpies’s universe, transforming a workshop object into a powerful tactile and three-dimensional presence thanks to the pronounced relief of the embossing.
Condition: Excellent overall condition, with full margins and untrimmed edges. Unframed.
Issued in 1978 by the prestigious Galerie Maeght and printed in Barcelona by master engraver Joan Barbarà, a reference workshop with which Tàpies developed his most complex print and embossing projects.
