Description from the seller

Udo Lindenberg

For sale is an art postcard from 1999 by Udo Lindenberg.

Auerbachs Keller, 1999
Copyright: Udo Lindenberg
Photo: Michael Ehritt

Museum der bildenden Künste Leipzig - Exhibition Zwischentöne 6.09.-01.12.2019

The rare collectible shows the colorful motif “Auerbachs Keller” and is handwritten signed by Udo Lindenberg with a blue Sharpie. The autograph was personally obtained in 2019 at the edge of an event in Berlin.

The original work is a large-format painting (160 × 200 cm), which Lindenberg brought onto canvas in his well-known mixed technique – the so-called “Likörellen” – using alcohol.

It was created as a pop-cultural response to Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s Faust I and depicts the famous tavern scene as a dense crowd of people with a red comic Mephisto in the foreground.

In August 1999 the series was shown at the Weimar Schlossmuseum during the exhibition “Doktor Panik.”

This phase is regarded as the moment when Lindenberg was scientifically recognized by the established art world.

The rare card is framed with a custom slanted-cut matte.
