Description from the seller

High-Grade Vintage Japanese Keyaki Wooden Kaidan Tansu – Compact Step Chest Sideboard with Precision Box-Joint Drawers & Black Iron Hardware for Modern Japandi Living

Description
An exceptional, finely proportioned vintage Japanese step chest (Kaidan Tansu), showcasing vibrant Zelkova-style wood grain (Keyaki), traditional black iron hardware, and superior carpentry craftsmanship.

Masterful Joinery & Functional Excellence:
Precision Box-Joint Craftsmanship: The ten individual drawers are constructed with traditional interlocking box-joint (dovetail style) corner joinery, visible along the drawer sides—a hallmark of authentic, durable Japanese woodworking.

Warm Amber Finish & Iron Accents:
Coated in a lustrous, warm reddish-amber lacquer tone that brings out the flowing timber grain, beautifully framed by black iron corner plates (Sumifuda) and decorative bail handles (Warabite).
Versatile Compact Dimensions: Unlike overly large traditional chests, this unit features a highly desirable compact profile with a width of 91.5 cm and a height of 78 cm, making it adaptable to contemporary urban spaces.

Contemporary Interior Display:
With its stepped architectural silhouette, this piece offers an extraordinary multi-tiered platform to display bonsai, ceramics, or lighting. Its ideal height allows it to serve as a high-end living room sideboard, entryway focal point, or luxury nightstand in modern Japandi, Scandinavian, or mid-century interiors.

Condition:
Exhibits excellent, clean vintage condition throughout. The wood finish remains vibrant, the structural joinery is rock-solid, and all drawers slide smoothly. Shows only very light surface handling marks consistent with careful historic preservation. Please inspect all detailed photographs to appreciate the exceptional quality.
