Description
An authentic, unusually large vintage hand-carved wooden Japanese mask (Omen), portraying Okame (also known as Otafuku), the beloved traditional goddess of good fortune, joy, and household harmony.
Iconography & Artisanal Craftsmanship:
Large-Scale Expressive Carving: Standing at an impressive 41 cm in height, this solid wooden carving features beautifully carved plump cheeks, narrow smiling eyes, bold crimson lips, and traditional blackened teeth (Ohaguro).
Heian Court Aesthetic Details: Fine hand-painted touches highlight her side-swept black hair and smudged forehead dots (Tenjo-mayu / aristocratic eyebrows).
Hand-Carved Chisel Marks: The reverse reveals crisp, authentic hand-chiseled gouge marks, confirming one-piece solid timber craftsmanship. Equipped with a cord for immediate wall mounting.
