From the mid-1990s onward, Espen Hagen has worked closely with his friend Herman Brood. Espen has exhibited twice at Café Dante, one of which was with Brood. In 1997 they again exhibited together, this time in the Arsenaal of Jan des Bouvrie in Naarden. Due to their frequent joint appearances and the many canvases they produced together, Espen Hagen is often described as the protégé and successor of Herman Brood.
Espen Hagen was seen as the “coming man” in Dutch painting. Thanks to numerous exhibitions both at home and abroad and his regular television appearances, the star of this talented artist rose rapidly. Espen Greger Hagen passed away on 10 April 2008.
