Walter Valentini (Pergola, October 22, 1928 – Milan, May 20, 2022) was an Italian painter, sculptor, and engraver, internationally recognized in the field of graphics and printmaking.
His cultural and professional formation began at the Scuola del Libro in Urbino, a place where he learned intaglio techniques such as etching, lithography, and woodcut. Here he started to breathe the air of humanism and to work paper as if it were a tangle of neural fibers of his own body. Urbino means painting, architecture, philosophy which, in the fifteenth century, with Federico da Montefeltro as patron and intellectual, find unity in neoplatonic thought, and where Piero della Francesca, Laurana, and court literati designed utopia. Space, time, the real are ordered into a rational system, the individual parts relate to the whole through proportion, which is the intelligible sign of beauty and the Creator.
