Far from the conventional figures of Latin American abstraction, Baruj Salinas (1935–2024) spent his life examining silence. Trained as an architect and become a painter of the invisible, the Cuban-American artist sees in painting and drawing less a space to saturate than a surface to unburden, traversed by atmospheric whites, deep grays and a memory-sedimentation inherited from his Barcelona and New York years. His works have entered the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Joan Miró Foundation, among others.

Architecte de formation devenu peintre de l'invisible, l'artiste cubano-américain voit dans la peinture et le dessin moins un espace à saturer qu'une surface à délester, traversée de blancs atmosphériques, de gris profonds et d'une sédimentation mémorielle héritée de ses années barcelonaises et new-yorkaises. Ses oeuvres sont entrées dans les collections de l'Art Institute de Chicago et de la Fondation Joan Miró, entre autres.
