“Blue Overseas” (Grogland Project)
This painting does not have a precise description. When I looked at it, the colors immediately reminded me of a blue overseas/ocean blue. It was an immediate sensation, even before trying to find a meaning. From that first impression, the title was born.

There are emotions that come before words. When that happens, I take the Grog and begin. Grogland arises from the desire to make my relationship with the canvas more direct, instinctive, and immediate.

I use Grog markers, tools tied to writing, and I approach the canvas as if I were in front of a wall on the street. I let what I feel enter into the pressure of the marker, into the speed of the movement, and into the overlaps, before thought can completely control the gesture.

My mark was born in 2019, on order pads, while I was working at the bar. Over time it has become a personal language. In Grogland that same language finds a new condition: less control and greater urgency.

Grog becomes my expressive weapon: a street tool brought onto a support historically linked to painting. It is this encounter that interests me, along with the possibility of discovering the meaning of the work after it is made.

The irregularities, drips, and variations of the mark remain as physical traces of the impulse. Grogland brings to the canvas the attitude of the street: immediacy, risk, instinct, and the need to leave a trace.

I have an emotion. I take the Grog. I bring it onto the canvas. From there the work begins.

BIO:

I am Pietro Fight, an Italian visual artist based in Milan. My research revolves around the writing of gesture: an abstract language made of signs, circles, fills, and empties that repeat and transform from one work to another. Through my paintings I try to tell my way of seeing life and my artistic path, working on the relationship between density and breath, weight and space. Each work is unique and arises from a manual process made of rhythm, repetition, and increasingly varied variations.
