Teun Hocks (1947-2022) - Man on a bicycle

This print / photo without a title featuring the image of a man on a bicycle (man on a bicycle) was created by Teun Hocks. The print / photo is a 1996 edition from Randstad Uitzendbureau of a photograph by Teun Hocks from 1993. In the lower left of the photo there is printed text: Teun Hocks created this untitled artwork in 1993. This photo is part of the Randstad photo collection “Werk.” The passe-partout also bears, in blind embossing, the Randstad logo at the bottom right, with Randstad Uitzendbureau behind it. The print / photo measures 34.8 cm long by 24.8 cm wide on the inside of the passe-partout, while the outside of the passe-partout is 50 cm long by 40 cm wide.

Teun Hocks was one of the founders of Dutch staged photography. His tragicomical works of art, in which he himself plays the leading role, strike a balance between photography and painting.

Antonius Christiaan Maria (Teun) Hocks, born 10 June 1947 in Leiden, died 27 February 2022 in Rotterdam, was a Dutch photographer, collagist, painter, draughtsman, performance artist, serigraphist and cineaste. Teun Hocks trained at the Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten St. Joost Breda. He was a drawing teacher at the School for Industrial Design Eindhoven (Design Academy Eindhoven) and a photography and drawing teacher at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie Amsterdam. In 1992 Teun Hocks won the Capi-Lux Alblas Prize. He worked in Breda, Breukelen (Utrecht) and Nieuwer ter Aa. Teun Hocks has held exhibitions and solo shows worldwide, including in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, France, the United States, Italy, Canada, Spain and China.
