Anton Heyboer (Sabang, 1924 – Den Ilp, 2005) had a strong international museum presence, especially in the sixties and seventies. His work was from the 1960s acquired several times by the Museum of Modern Art in New York and was included in Documenta II (1959), III (1964) and 4 (1968/1969) in Kassel. Kunstmuseum Den Haag collected his work from the 1960s and organized in 1967 a major survey of his graphic oeuvre; in 2017 a new retrospective followed there.
Heyboer developed a very personal visual language in which human figures, writing, numbers, signs and recurring symbolic structures come together. Etchings initially formed an important focus of his oeuvre, but in addition he worked with drawings, paintings and photography. The Rijksmuseum holds a substantial collection of his prints and drawings.
