Virio da Savona (1901-1985) - Il pescatore con la rete

Virio da Savona is a decidedly interesting artist on the Ligurian scene of the Twentieth Century. His real name was Vittorio Agamennone: he was born in Verona on July 20, 1901 and died in 1995; his artistic life, however, was strongly linked to Savona and especially to Albisola. He was a painter, sculptor and ceramicist.
His career was not only regional. He participated in the exhibitions of the Society for Fine Arts of Genoa and in the exhibitions of the Regional Ligurian Union of Fine Arts; he is also listed as an honorary Academician for painting at the Ligurian Academy of Fine Arts. Some of his works entered public and private collections, including Palazzo Rosso in Genoa.

A particularly interesting aspect is his activity as a ceramicist in Albisola, an environment that in the Twentieth Century became a center of great artistic importance. Sources connect him to the M.G.A. manufactory of the Mazzotti family and to Alba Docilia; thus he entered directly into the Albisola ceramic milieu.

Virio worked extensively with watercolor, oil painting and mixed media. In his works human figures recur, along with fishermen, workers, landscapes, flowers and scenes of daily life. There are also works from 1942 related to World War II, such as Reparti someggiati attendati and Rientro in Italia dal fronte orientale.
This painting depicts a fisherman sitting on the beach as he arranges the fishing net.
The painting measures 60x50 cm and its peculiarity is that it is not on canvas but on a mirrored support, I would say a true mirror.
For this reason sending it by mail would be very dangerous. I live in Albisola, I think hand pickup is the safest option.
