Rudolf Belling (1886–1972) ranks among the most important German sculptors of the classical modern era and, with his innovative sculptures, helped shape the development of abstract and expressionist sculpture in the 20th century. His works combine figurative and constructive formal language in a unique way and are today represented in renowned museums as well as major art collections worldwide.
About Hans Kinkel
The German collector and photographer Hans Kinkel left behind one of the most significant private art legacies of German modernism and Expressionist art of the 20th century. His collection encompassed works by leading artists from classical modernism to postwar art and united photography, visual art, and art-historical documents in a unique way. Together with Klapheck he issued the Catalogue raisonné of graphic art prints 1977–1980. After his death, a substantial part of the estate was presented in the exhibition “From Kirchner to Baselitz – A Century’s Heritage: The Hans Kinkel Collection” at the Germanisches Nationalmuseum. The exhibition made the collection’s exceptional quality and art-historical relevance accessible to a broad public and established Hans Kinkel’s estate as an important testimony of German art and cultural history.
