The composition shows three elegantly stylized female figures in a surreal coastal/fisherman scene. Nets, maritime elements and the strongly elongated figures fuse into a characteristic, poetically fantastical dream-world.
The sheet is hand-signed by Mac Zimmermann in pencil at the bottom right and numbered “78/100” at the bottom left. It is therefore exemplar 78 of a limited edition of 100 copies.
Of particular note is the high-quality framing: the work is housed in an elegant frame of brushed stainless steel, whose clear, modern design harmonizes very well with the light blue color field and the fine black drawing.

Mac Zimmermann (1912–1995) is regarded as one of the most important German representatives of postwar Surrealism and Fantastic Realism. After World War II he belonged to an avant-garde group that opposed the then-dominant abstract painting and instead chose a figurative, dreamlike visual language.

Zimmermann’s mystical compositions, his bizarre, often puppet-like figures, and his collage-like landscapes show strong parallels to the visionary worlds Max Ernst established in the 1920s and 1930s.
