In this vertical format, Medsan places Mulan in profile, facing right, gaze lowered and mouth closed. Her long black hair is pulled into a high ponytail and a dark headband, tied at the back of the head, bars her forehead; her ribbons stretch to the left of the frame, carried away by the wind with her strands.
Inside her silhouette opens a snow-covered mountainside. Black pines dusted with white rise along the nape of her neck and her shoulder, a crest leading to a pale-roofed fortress placed near her temple, and a column of soldiers climbs the slope in line, spears on their shoulders, behind a red banner — the only bright color of the scene. Everything else rests in slate grays, blacks and whites of the snow, under a cream sky where a veiled sun is rising and where a flight of dark birds drifts upward. Snow falls in fine white specks down to the bottom of the frame, and the entire landscape seems to fit within this single face.

A sober and narrative piece, ideal for bringing a touch of epic storytelling to an interior of a collector attached to popular culture heroines.

About Medsan / Popsan:
Medsan and Popsan are two signatures of the same artist. Under the name Medsan, he explores the world of medicine and anatomy; under the name Popsan, he revisits icons of popular culture by mixing pop art, Japanese art and anachronisms. On Catawiki, his pop works still appear under the name Medsan, but they belong to the Popsan universe. He creates within Atelier Joconde, a family of artists’ workshop, alongside Le Yack (figurative painting) and Neo Pablo (abstract).
