Kimiko Yoshida, La Mariée torero en habit de lumières noires, dans le souvenir de Picasso, 2006, an original contemporary fine-art photograph (mixed technique) in a 120 × 120 cm format (18 kg), hand signed and produced in France as an original edition depicting a portrait from The Brides series in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
A true masterpiece of contemporary conceptual fine-art photography by the internationally renowned Franco-Japanese artist Kimiko Yoshida. Created in 2006, this iconic and hauntingly beautiful work is part of her critically acclaimed, career-defining project centered on monochromatic self-portraits, known as "The Brides" (*La Mariée*). In this striking composition—titled *La Mariée torero en habit de lumières noires, dans le souvenir de Picasso*—Yoshida masterfully explores themes of identity erasure, feminism, and cultural hybridization. Bathed in a deep, velvety black monochrome, the artist's face almost entirely dissolves into the darkness; only the minimalist details of her white-painted lips and eyes emerge, alongside the intricate, luminous structural lines of the traditional Spanish *traje de luces* (the bullfighter's "suit of lights"). It is a subtle yet profound homage to Picasso’s legacy and a brilliant exercise in the aesthetics of shadow. Works from this series are held in major museum collections worldwide, making this piece a highly prestigious and secure "blue-chip" acquisition for discerning international art collectors. [Technical Profile and Documentation] Artist: Kimiko Yoshida (born in Tokyo, 1963; lives and works in Paris) Title: *La Mariée torero en habit de lumières noires, dans le souvenir de Picasso. Autoportrait*, 2006 Medium: Fine-art photography (C-Print / Giclée print on archival paper) Year of creation: 2006 Bibliography/Documentation: A work extensively documented and published in the artist's official monographs and reference texts alongside her historic "Brides" series (as confirmed by the accompanying catalogue dossier). [Condition Report] The work is in excellent condition. The deep, rich black tones are perfectly uniform and velvety, maintaining impeccable artistic contrast. The delicate white details are extraordinarily crisp. There is no evidence of fading, oxidation (silvering), or handling defects. Published in the book titled "All That's Not Me," which will be given as a complimentary gift to the buyer.
