A nice black lacquered writing table 文台 (bundai), decorated throughout with finely inlaid mother-of-pearl 螺鈿 (raden).
The upper surface is adorned with an elegant composition of plum branches 梅 (ume), their first blossoms beginning to open, rendered in shimmering mother-of-pearl against the deep black lacquer ground. The central panel is framed by a narrow border of scrolling foliage, also inlaid in mother-of-pearl.
