"Memory Loss" (Grogland Project)
The orange asserts itself in the upper part with an intense, compact presence, almost dominant. As you move downward, however, it progressively loses unity: it fractures, disintegrates, and dissociates within the blue weave, allowing the initial energy to transform into a more unstable, rarefied, and dispersed presence.
The color, once a full, impactful mass, thus opens to a gradual dissolution process that traverses the entire surface of the work.
"There are emotions that arrive before words. When that happens, I grab the Grog and start."
Grogland was born from the desire to make my relationship with the canvas more direct, instinctive, and immediate.
I use Grog markers, tools tied to writing, and I approach the canvas as if I were facing a wall in the street. I let what I feel enter into the pressure of the marker, the speed of the movement, and the overlaps, before thought can fully control the gesture.
My mark was born in 2019, on the order pads while I worked at the bar. Over time it has become a personal language. In Grogland that same language finds a new condition: less control and greater urgency.
Grog becomes my expressive weapon: a street tool brought onto a support historically tied to painting. It is this encounter that interests me, along with the possibility of discovering the meaning of the work after it is created.
Irregularities, drips, and variations of the mark remain as physical traces of the impulse. Grogland brings the street’s attitude to the canvas: immediacy, risk, instinct, and the need to leave a trace.
I have an emotion. I take the Grog. I bring it onto the canvas.
From there the work begins.
BIO:
I am Pietro Fight, an Italian visual artist based in Milan. My research revolves around writing the gesture: an abstract language made of marks, circles, fills and voids that repeat and transform from one work to another. Through my paintings I try to tell my way of seeing life and my artistic journey, working on the relationship between density and breath, weight and space. Each work is unique and born from a manual process of rhythm, repetition, and ever-changing variations.
