Remo Brindisi, 3 Acqueforti, a limited edition set of three original etchings on Fabriano Rosaspina paper, hand-signed, in good condition, depicting mythology, with sheets sized 25 × 35 cm, 20 × 20 cm and 24.5 × 35 cm and printed image sizes 14.5 × 19.5 cm, 11 × 9 cm and 13.5 × 19 cm.
Description from the seller
Remo Brindisi (Rome, 1918 – Lido di Spina, 1996) was one of the most important protagonists of Italian art in the second half of the 20th century. Painter, etcher, and tireless experimenter, he developed a strongly personal expressive research, characterized by a figurative language in continual evolution, capable of combining emotional intensity with refined graphic sensibility.
The lot offered by Francesco Bongiovanni brings together three original etchings, all untitled, printed on fine Rosaspina Fabriano paper for artistic engraving by Luciano Bongiovanni, a printmaker active for numerous Italian artists of the second half of the 20th century. The print quality and the paper used effectively convey the richness of the incised line and the depth of the blacks, features that fully enhance Brindisi’s graphic language.
The first work is a Proof of Print (P.d.S.). The sheet measures 25 × 35 cm, while the printed image measures 14.5 × 19.5 cm. It has a slight fold in the upper left corner, a contained defect that does not interfere with reading the image.
The second etching is a Proof by the Artist (P.A.). The sheet measures 20 × 20 cm, with the printed image of 11 × 9 cm. This is a lot of particular collectible interest, traditionally intended for the artist and produced before the final edition.
Completing the lot is the third etching numbered VI/XXV. The sheet measures 24.5 × 35 cm, while the printed image measures 13.5 × 19 cm. There is a light crease along the lower left edge, also limited to the border and with no effect on the enjoyment of the work.
The signatures, numbering, and editorial annotations are those visible in the attached photographs.
The works come from the private collection of Francesco Bongiovanni, built over time through the activity of Luciano Bongiovanni as a printmaker. Certificates of authenticity or other documentation are not present, but the direct provenance from the family collection represents a factor of particular historical and connoisseur interest.
Overall, the condition can be defined as good. The paper retains good general freshness; there are physiological and light signs of aging, with modest yellowing and the light creases at the margins already described for two of the works. These imperfections do not compromise either the aesthetic quality or the legibility of the engravings and are fully compatible with the nature and age of the prints.
Proofs of printing and proofs by the artist traditionally constitute the most sought-after part of intaglio production, as they document the stages preceding the final edition and are normally available in very limited quantities. The presence, in the same lot, of a Proof of Print, a Proof by the Artist, and a specimen from a small numbered edition makes this set particularly interesting both for the collector of Italian graphic art and for anyone wishing to deepen the engraving activity of Remo Brindisi.
The works will be carefully protected with acid-free paper, stiff boards, and professional packaging to ensure maximum safety during transport. Shipping is fixed at €15 for Italy and €20 for European Union countries. For logistical and customs reasons, shipments to non-EU countries are not provided.
