Photographer Artist – Creator of Contemporary Images
Multidisciplinary photographic artist, author and musician, David Law develops work centered on gaze, presence and the perception of image in urban space. He first made a name for himself with a series devoted to shop window mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave rise to an art book published in 2021. Later, he was drawn to the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, extending this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models acquire a troubling, almost living presence, calling into question our relation to illusion and projection.
New Series – Contemporary Photomosaics
Since 2022, David Law has been developing a new body of works based on artistic photomosaic and contemporary digital composition. Each creation is built from a multitude of micro visual fragments generated with current graphic tools, then carefully selected, structured and recombined by the artist. From a distance, the image appears immediately legible, strong and assertive. Up close, it reveals a dense architecture composed of thousands of subtly interwoven elements. This work rests on a precise artistic direction, a methodical and rigorous construction, a balance sought between fragmentation and unity, and a constant demand for visual quality and decorative impact. Through this series, David Law questions the fabrication of contemporary image-making and how a multitude of fragments can give rise to a coherent and singular work.
Edition & Fabrication
Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies + 4 artist’s proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The prints are made on aluminum with a built-in rear mounting. Printing on luminescent white vinyl, mounted between two aluminum plates, with soft UV- and humidity-resistant lamination, guaranteeing excellent durability, lasting color stability, and a modern, contemporary look.
Biography
Since 2014, David Law has participated in around twenty Contemporary Art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the attached photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. Parallel to his visual activity, he develops his work as an author and musician, including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a graphic novel, a photobook, and 5 self-produced CDs. A singer-guitarist, he currently performs with the group FRENZY.
