Description from the seller
JOSEPH BEUYS
WORK: "POST CARD" - Schellmann P4 - Multiple
Color variant: Yellow on white
HAND-SIGNED
One of Beuys’s multiples, listed by Schellmann under the number P4 (Works Catalogue - here described as "unsigned, few signed"). The card was available according to Schellmann in three color variants; Neuhaus lists here a total of four color variants — here the first edition in the color variant "Yellow on White" - never reprinted. The images are for comparison (Schellmann and Neuhaus are not part of the offering).
Clearly visible, perfectly signed in pencil, absolutely flawless condition - Publisher: Angela Flowers; London. The only halftone card by Beuys - here referred to as a "Post Card".
The motif dates from 1963 and shows Beuys during one of his most significant and early performances — Aktion EURASIA - Siberian Symphony — which was first performed three years later at the Block Gallery Berlin. Beuys here used a dead rabbit as an element of action, its legs and ears extended with black wooden sticks.
Delivery with frame (43 x 32) as pictured - the card is not fixed.
