Giuseppe Carli (1915-1987) - Forcola da poppa per Sandolo N 4 -

Forcola in Italian means "fork," and in this case it refers to the support used by gondoliers to hold the oars of their boats. More commonly known as forcole, these walnut-wood carved objects with a patina of age have been transformed by Giuseppe Carli into standalone sculptures.

The forcole are made with regard to the gondolier's build and his way of rowing. It is a personal, tailor-made instrument. No two are alike, and each forcola is a unique work of art.

This one is signed by Giuseppe Carli, mounted on a plinth and in perfect condition.
