Unsigned, it bears a cartouche on the frame with an attribution probably erroneous to his contemporary Giuseppe Zais.
The more correct attribution is instead ANTONIO DIZIANI (Venice, February 9, 1737 – Venice, June 23, 1797). Son of Gaspare and brother of Giuseppe, he was a painter active mainly in Venice.
He became a member of the Academy of Painting and Sculpture in 1774, dedicating himself to genre scenes and landscapes, influenced by the pastoral painting of Francesco Zuccarelli and Giuseppe Zais.
His works, which also show Flemish and Dutch influence, have a burlesque and populist character. None of his paintings is dated or datable; we only know that in 1766 he presented to the Academy of Fine Arts a Landscape with the Magdalene to demonstrate his skill and obtain admission to the Academy. Among the works attributed to him with certainty are those in the Gallery of the Accademia in Venice.
In good condition, oil on canvas which in the early 1900s was glued onto Masonite while retaining the original frame.
