Description from the seller
A luminous Japanese six-panel folding screen, made of silk applied over gold leaf, characterised by a minimalist composition devoid of decoration. The gold surface creates a warm, diffused luminosity, with subtle tonal variations and reflections that change according to the light and viewing angle.
Historically, folding screens with gold-toned backgrounds were often used in noble residences and temples, not only for their functional role but also for their aesthetic and symbolic value. The golden surface evoked refinement and elevated status while enhancing the decorative presence of the screen within the interior space.
The screen can also be easily mounted on a wall or used as a room divider.
Byōbu (屏風), literally “wind protection screens,” are traditional Japanese folding screens originally created to divide spaces and today appreciated above all as striking wall-mounted paintings.
---The byobu is in good condition. with minor signs of wear consistent with age. A hole is present on the reverse. Minor wear to the lacquered frame, consistent with age. Please refer to the pictures for further details.
The item will be carefully packed and shipped accompanied by the original certificate of authenticity issued by Mastromauro Japanese art gallery based in Milan, Italy.
