Ohi Ippei（大樋一平） - Chawan - Amber-glazed Matcha Tea Bowl - Earthenware - Original Signed Tomobako

This is an amber-glazed matcha tea bowl created by Ōhi Ippei.

The bowl is covered with the deep, warm amber glaze for which Ōhi ware is especially renowned. Its distinctive lustre and rich variations in colour change subtly according to the light, bringing a quiet elegance to the tea room.

Ōhi ware is a traditional form of pottery from Kanazawa that developed from the Raku tradition. Rather than being formed on a conventional potter’s wheel, it is shaped primarily by hand and refined with spatula carving. This process gives each piece a soft, natural form that sits comfortably in the hands, as well as an individual wabi-sabi character.

The gently irregular rim and softly modelled body of this bowl convey the warmth of traditional handcraftsmanship. The potter’s mark of Ōhi Ippei appears on the base.

The bowl is accompanied by its original signed wooden storage box and a protective cloth bearing a red seal.

The tea bowl is in good condition, with no chips, cracks or repairs. The wooden box shows natural signs of age and use. Please examine the photographs carefully for further details of its condition.

The item will be shipped from Japan by EMS, an express international postal service with tracking and insurance. If EMS acceptance is restricted for the destination country, another fully tracked international courier service may be used.

For eligible orders shipped to the European Union with a value of €150 or less, VAT is collected by Catawiki at checkout. The IOSS number provided by Catawiki will be used for customs clearance.

Following the abolition of the EU customs-duty exemption for low-value imports, a customs duty of €3 may apply to this item in addition to VAT. Depending on the destination country and the procedures of its customs authority, postal operator or courier, additional customs-clearance or handling fees may also be charged. All such import-related charges are the responsibility of the buyer.

After shipment, please check the tracking number registered with Catawiki regularly. Even after a parcel has arrived in the destination country, it may be held for customs clearance without the local customs authority or delivery company contacting the recipient.

If the tracking information stops updating for an extended period after the parcel enters the destination country, the buyer must promptly contact the local customs authority, postal operator or delivery company. The seller cannot contact the customs authority of the importing country or complete import procedures on the buyer’s behalf.

If customs or the delivery company requests information, payment or other action, please respond promptly and complete all necessary procedures within the parcel’s storage period. Failure to complete customs formalities, pay duties or charges, or arrange delivery may result in the parcel being returned to Japan.

If the parcel is returned because of the buyer’s failure to respond, non-payment of import charges, refusal to accept delivery or expiration of the storage period, the original shipping cost will not be refunded. Any return charges and the cost of reshipping the item will also be the buyer’s responsibility.
