Description from the seller

Original screen print by the Dutch artist Jan Schoonhoven, from the year 1987.

Signed by hand in pencil in the bottom right, dated “87”.
Bottom left numbered in pencil.

About the work:
The composition shows Schoonhoven's characteristic, strictly reduced visual language. A tall rectangle is intersected by an oval form and bold diagonal lines. Fine, regularly spaced cross-hatching forms a precise background and consciously contrasts with the freer, almost drawing-like black lines in the center.

Published by Bébert, Rotterdam, 1987.

Literature: C. Rigo, B. Meijer, ‘Jan Schoonhoven. edities - the editions’, Schiedam 2018,

Framing:
The work is professionally and high-quality framed and is presented in an exclusive Plexiglas showcase. This can be hung as well as placed freestanding, thus allowing different presentation options.
Dimensions of the showcase: approx. 52 x 33 cm

About the artist:
Jan Schoonhoven (1914–1994) is among the most important Dutch artists of the European post-war avant-garde. As a co-founder of the Dutch Nul group, he was closely linked to the international ideas of the ZERO movement. Schoonhoven became especially known for his monochrome white reliefs and his consistent engagement with grid, rhythm, repetition, light, and structure. Even in his works on paper and his print graphics, he translated these principles into a precise, unmistakable visual language.

His works are highly valued worldwide by collectors of ZERO art, Minimalism, and the postwar avant-garde. Works by Jan Schoonhoven are held, among others, in the collections of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam, the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag (Kunstmuseum Den Haag), and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York.
