Meiji-period Japanese bronze bonshō temple bell, circa 1850–1900, 56 cm high, 25 cm wide, 25 cm deep, weighing 21.2 kg, with aged patina and small signs of wear, and accompanied by the original certificate of authenticity.
Description from the seller
A finely cast bronze temple bell modelled after the traditional Japanese bonshō, the large bells used in Buddhist temples.
The domed crown is surmounted by a finely sculpted ryūzu, formed by two confronted dragons, while the body is decorated with the characteristic raised bosses (nyū) arranged in regular panels above horizontal reinforcing bands. The rich, naturally aged patina enhances the surface.
