We present at auction an authentic relic of the history of writing: the legendary Montblanc Safety Pen No. 2. This instrument, forged at the dawn of the 20th century, is a living testimony to the origins of what would become the world's most famous writing manufacturer, when it still operated under the name Simplo Füllpen Gesellschaft.
With the period’s classic proportions, it measures 12.5 cm in length (closed) and 1 cm in diameter. The body and cap are turned in black ebonite (hardened vulcanized rubber). Unlike many surviving units that have severely oxidized, this piece retains an exceedingly dark color and, more importantly, incredibly sharp engravings. The cap bears the primitive engraving of "MONT BLANC" with the mountain emblem, while the body features the rare and coveted seal "SIMPLO ORIGINAL MONTBLANC". The dome is crowned by the emblematic white star, which wears a beautiful yellowed patina forged by a century of age.
It features the ingenious "Safety" mechanism: by rotating the tailpiece, the splendid solid 14-karat gold nib retracts into the reservoir, allowing the cap to seal hermetically the pen to prevent leaks.
