Mimmo Rotella (1918-2006) - La Benzinara

An exceptional, historic work with great commercial impact, realized with the technique of color lithography and offset, by the master of Pop Art and international Nouveau Réalisme, Mimmo Rotella (Catanzaro, 1918 - Milan, 2006).
This genius work is titled "La benzinara", was created in 1974 and published by the renowned publishing house Edizioni Plura of Milan.
The work portrays the iconic Italian actress Monica Vitti in her famous role in the film "Teresa la ladra" (1973). Rotella masterfully transposes her legendary language of urban décollage onto the graphic plate. Monica Vitti's magnetic smile and her vibrant red hair dominate the composition, surrounded by deep horizontal bands of saturated cobalt blue, bright yellow, and warm gold. The composition visually evokes the frayed layers of cinema posters that lined the streets of post-war Italy, capturing the essence of European pop culture and cinematic nostalgia.
