Magnificent book on the “Centenary of the Legion of Honour (1804-1954)” - 1955 - In4 - French - Paris, Editeurs Pierre de Tartas (under the presidency of René Coty - 151 pages of text based notably on the texts of L. Bonneville de Marsangy + table of contents - hard cover from the period.

A work illustrated with original copper engravings by the burin made by the artist C. P. Josso and which gathers the following 10 texts: Jules Renaud, Creation of the Legion of Honour - Wilfrid Baumgartner, The Finances - Léon Binet, The Sciences and Medicine - Maurice Genevoix, The Letters - Edouard Herriot, The Politics - Alphonse Juin, The Army - Carl Le Coq de Kerland, The Judiciary - Pierre Ricard, Industry and Commerce - Comte de Saint-Quentin, Diplomacy - Georges d’Heylli and Pierre de Tartas, The Palace of the Legion of Honour.

In these engravings illustrated by Josso are found 16 original burins (one frontispiece, one engraved title, 10 hors-texte (including 3 on double pages and 4 in-text) and 11 woodcuts representing various medals and printed in-text beside the first initial of each chapter).

This book is numbered 51 of which this copy was specially printed for Maître E.-P. Thébault: President of the Civil Indigene Chamber of the Court of Appeal of Madagascar, Knight of the Legion of Honour and Commander of the Order of the Star of the Great Comore.

These 50 copies, of which this is a part, were printed on Val de Laga handmade paper, including a sequence of plates on Vélin de Rives in brown and a sequence of wood on Chine (numbered 21 to 70).
