The revolutionary spirit of Francisco de Goya laid the groundwork for modern art, connecting generations of creative subversives. His raw political critique and dark imagination directly inspired the anti-war intensity of Pablo Picasso and the surreal dreamscapes of Salvador Dalí. Goya’s focus on heavy texture and historical reinvention echoes in the works of Eduardo Chillida and Manolo Valdés, while his late-career whimsy finds a parallel in Juan García Ripollés. Finally, his pioneering use of mass-produced etchings for social satire prefigured Andy Warhol’s pop culture screenprints and lives on in Banksy’s subversive, anti-establishment street art.
