Description from the seller
Miodrag Đorđević (1936) — Fluid Abstract Composition
Mixed media / oil on cardboard
57.4 × 41.5 cm — Signed — Unframed
Description of the work
Abstract composition by Miodrag Đorđević (also known as Miodrag), born in 1936.
Mixed media (oil, fluid substances) on cardboard,
format 57.4 × 41.5 cm.
Signed “MIODRAG” at the bottom right and at the top right.
The surface is worked with stains and reserves: deep reds, oranges, gold yellows, blues, purples and blacks meet in organic shapes, like seas, islands or lava flows.
The material is glossy, sometimes grainy, with sharp edges and milky transitions. From one angle, the piece oscillates between lyrical abstraction and mineral emergence.
Decorative work, saturated with color and contrasts. Generous format. Clear double signature.
Sold unframed.
Condition
Good overall condition. Deep colors, generous and glossy material. Studio traces and small surface irregularities — normal.
The verso is a cream cardboard, with a few halos and paint splashes from the studio.
Biography
Miodrag Đorđević (Miodrag), born in 1936
Yugoslav/Serbian painter born in 1936 in Aleksinac, Miodrag Đorđević established himself in the 1960s as one of the European figures of optical art and abstraction. Trained in Zagreb, stints in Rome and Paris, settled in Brussels. Exhibitions notably in Rome, Florence, Paris, Brussels, Dallas and Miami. Works cited in private collections (Giulio Andreotti, Sophia Loren, Natalie Wood, Henry Miller).
Beyond geometric and kinetic op art, he pursued multiple periods and supports: oil, paper, cardboard, screen printing. Here, the painterly gesture (fluid materials, color stains, reserves) yields a piece that is both decorative and very engaged with matter.
