Description from the seller
Miodrag Đorđević (1936) — Irisé Abstract Composition
Mixed media / oil on cardboard — 61.5 × 45 cm — Signed — Unframed
Description of the work
Luminous abstract composition by Miodrag Đorđević (also known as Miodrag), born in 1936.
Mixed media (oil, fluid materials) on cardboard,
format 61.5 × 45 cm.
Signed “MIODRAG” at the bottom right.
The surface unfolds in swaths of color: gold yellows, water greens, lavenders, pinks, oranges and pale blues.
Organic shapes, bubbles, petals and veils blend into one another. Light flows through the glazes: from certain angles, the piece evokes an underwater garden, a nebula, or an iridescent bouquet.
The texture of the cardboard remains visible in places, giving the material a lively grain.
A decorative work, soft and saturated with light. Generous format.
Clear signature.
Sold unframed.
Condition
Good overall condition. Vivid colors, fluid and iridescent material. Studio traces and small surface irregularities — normal.
The back is a cardboard printed with the repeated motif “ORICAL,” with a few studio marks.
Biography
Miodrag Đorđević (Miodrag), born in 1936
Yugoslav/Serbian painter born in 1936 in Aleksinac, Miodrag Đorđević established himself in the 1960s as one of the European figures of optical art and abstraction.
Education in Zagreb, stints in Rome and Paris, settled in Brussels. Exhibitions notably in Rome, Florence, Paris, Brussels, Dallas and Miami. Works cited in private collections (Giulio Andreotti, Sophia Loren, Natalie Wood, Henry Miller).
Beyond geometric and kinetic Op Art, he explored multiple periods and supports: oil, paper, cardboard, silkscreen. Here, the painterly gesture (glaze, iridescent colors, organic forms) yields a piece that is both decorative and highly worked in material.
