Corneille, Epreuve Aquarellee, a unique hand-edited one-off work from 1968 in the Cobra style depicting animals, hand-signed with four colour corrections noted before screen printing for Plage Sauvage Peuplée, measuring 90 × 70 cm including frame (image size 65 × 48 cm) and weighing 2 kg, sold by Galerie with certificate of authenticity.
Description from the seller
Collector's item: a unique and very special exemplar, hand-worked by Corneille with the aid of “Epreuve Aquarellee,” in which prior to the silkscreen process the final color corrections handwritten beneath the image were indicated.
The image was later used for the silkscreen titled “Plage Sauvage Peuplée” that Corneille created in 1968.
Corneille was known for sometimes writing a personal note in the margin at the bottom of his special copies (including the E/As) next to his signature and edition number. In this case, on the lower left of the image the instruction to the printer was given as to which “4 couleurs” needed to be updated. Such pieces he usually kept for himself or gave to his close associates.
Title: "Plage Sauvage Peuplée" (title of the later series)
Artist: Corneille (Guillaume Corneille Beverloo), (1922-2010)
Year: (perhaps from before) 1968 (because it is a precursor to the later silkscreen series with this title)
Technique: "Epreuve Aquarellee"
Dimensions with black frame and white mat: 90 x 70 cm, hanging system on the back
Image size: 65 x 48 cm
Hand-signed in pencil, lower right by Corneille
Added text handwritten in pencil by Corneille
. "4 couleurs: 1 noir, 1 ocre, 1 vert, 1 rose"
. "Epreuve aquarellee"
The work is accompanied by the original glass, with original frame, mat and hanging hardware, and is in exceptionally good and undamaged condition.
Certificate of authenticity will be supplied.
Preference for pickup due to the fragility of the glass and the risk of damage to the work as a result.
