Description from the seller
Suleiman the Magnificent – Museum-Quality Meerschaum Portrait Pipe
A true museum-quality work of meerschaum art, this extraordinary extra-large portrait pipe depicts Suleiman the Magnificent, one of the most iconic sultans of the Ottoman Empire.
Hand-carved in Eskişehir, Türkiye, in 2026, the piece was created from a substantial piece of genuine block meerschaum. Its exceptional size provided the master carver with a remarkable sculptural surface, allowing an extraordinary level of detail throughout the portrait.
The Sultan’s facial features have been individually sculpted with particular attention to expression, depth, proportion, and historical character. As visible in the photographs, the complexity of the carving extends far beyond the portrait itself. The exceptionally long stem and its elaborate decorative carving form an integral part of the artwork, giving the entire composition a monumental and highly collectible presence.
This is not a mass-produced design and should be regarded as an individual sculptural work. Because the natural dimensions and characteristics of every block of meerschaum are different, and because the entire composition is shaped and carved by hand, an identical copy cannot realistically be reproduced.
