Description from the seller
SALVADOR DALÍ (1904–1989) (after)
Moses and the Ten Commandments – The Ten Commandments
Large low-relief in patinated bronze, ca. 1977–1980
Important and spectacular low-relief in patinated bronze by Salvador Dalí, dedicated to one of the great episodes of the Old Testament: Moses and the reception of the Ten Commandments.
The composition shows Moses kneeling before the monumental Tablets of the Law, whose texts are represented by Hebrew characters. Around him, Dalí develops an extraordinary biblical-inspired landscape transformed by his characteristic surrealist language: abrupt rock formations, human figures and an explosion of geometric and linear shapes that give the scene an intense mystical dimension.
In the lower area stands the distinctive signature “DALI” integrated into the relief itself.
The piece presents a magnificent antique patina in browns, coppery and green tones, with surface oxidations that emphasize the volumes and provide great visual depth to the composition.
The work corresponds to the well-known model The Ten Commandments / Moses and the Ten Commandments, made in various editions and finishes at the end of the 1970s.
Approximate dimensions: 65 × 50 cm.
The prominent relief of the figure of Moses, the Tablets of the Law and the rock formations produce strong contrasts of light and shadow, turning the work into a mural sculpture of great presence.
The back, preserved and visible in the photographs, allows appreciation of the constructive procedure of the relief and its original structure.
Condition: good overall. It shows patina, green superficial oxidation, small abrasions, color variations and age-related signs. No apparent significant structural losses. It is recommended to examine carefully the extensive photographic documentation.
A particularly attractive work within Salvador Dalí’s sculptural production and multiples, combining his surrealist universe with one of the great religious themes that fascinated the artist in his maturity.
