⠀
An original silkscreen by internationally recognised Japanese avant-garde artist Ay-O 靉嘔 (born 1931), titled A Flower, created in 1980.
⠀
This work is a documented composition by Ay-O and was produced in a limited edition of 1,000 impressions. The present example is numbered 687/1000 and is hand-signed “Ay-O” in pencil at the lower right.
⠀
The title “a flower” appears in yellow at the lower left.
⠀
The composition depicts a stylised flower built from concentric bands of vivid orange, red, blue and green. The gradual transition of colour is characteristic of Ay-O's celebrated rainbow imagery, which became his defining visual language from the 1960s onward.
⠀
Ay-O moved to New York in 1958 and became associated with the international Fluxus movement. He became particularly known for transforming everyday objects, landscapes, figures and natural forms through systematic rainbow gradations.
⠀
A Flower is a documented 1980 silkscreen, published in an edition of 1,000. Reference examples record an image size of approximately 15 × 10 cm, corresponding closely with the present work.
⠀
The work is presented in a simple white frame with a broad mat, allowing the intense colours of the flower to stand out strongly.
