Description of the subject & stylistic analysis
This work is an intimate composition depicting a female nude seated three-quarters, in the grand tradition of European Modernity in the 20th century.
The model is captured in a lascivious and sculptural pose, arms raised behind the head, emphasizing the arch and the pure lines of the body.
The silhouette, outlined by a dark, vigorous contour reminiscent of Expressionism and Fauvism, stands out against a contrasted background combining flat areas of gray and deep blue. On the right of the composition, a mirror with a red oval frame adds geometric depth to the space and echoes the abstract patterns of the drapery on which the model rests.

The mastery of lithographic technique here perfectly renders the grain and sensitivity of textures, evoking the softness of pastel or soft chalk.

Artist’s biographical note
Mikhail ASHKHOTOV is a painter and graphic designer of Russian origin, born in 1959 in Nalchik. A graduate of the prestigious Saint Petersburg Academy of Arts (Repin Institute), he received a solid classical training there, which he quickly confronted with Western avant-garde movements.

After the fall of the Soviet Union, he settled in Central Europe in the early 1990s. His creation period around 1993 corresponds to a phase of intense international recognition, marked by major exhibitions in the Czech Republic (Prague) and Italy (Mantua).
His work, characterized by a celebration of the human form and a vibrant use of color, is today sought after by modern art collectors in Eastern and Western Europe.
