Description from the seller

Salvador Dali:
“The Temptation of Saint Anthony, 1946”.

Authorized by Salvador Dalí Foundation Gala.
This special artwork was issued in 2004 by Taschen on high-quality paper.
On the back copyright, title and description of the work.

Salvador Dalí, born on May 11, 1904 in Figueras, Spain, was a Spanish surrealist painter and printer, known for his explorations of subconscious images. He studied art in Madrid and Barcelona, and showed unusual technical skill as a painter. His mature artistic style developed in the late 1920s after discovering Sigmund Freud’s writings about the erotic significance of subconscious images and affiliating with the Parisian surrealists.

Dali's painting style evolved rapidly from 1929 to 1937, producing paintings that made him the most famous Surrealist artist in the world.

One of his important works is 'The Temptation of St. Anthony' (1946), which is located in the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium, Brussels. This painting shows a desert-like landscape with Saint Anthony kneeling in the lower left corner, while he holds a cross aloft. A procession of elephants, led by a horse, approaches St. Anthony and carries symbolic objects that represent temptation.

As for the value of his works, Dalí's paintings continue to perform well at auctions. According to Mei Moses of the famous auction house, the average compound annual return for Salvador Dali works resold at auctions between 2003 and 2017 was 7.3%. An impressive 88.2% of the 153 works increased in value.
