Henri Matisse (1869-1954) was a French painter, recognized as one of the great artists of the 20th century alongside Pablo Picasso. Born in Cateau-Cambrésis, Matisse began painting during a period of recovery in 1890 and decided to become an artist, despite his parents’ opposition. He studied at the Julian School and the School of Fine Arts in Paris, where he took lessons from the Symbolist painter Gustave Moreau.

Matisse is known for his innovative use of color and form in his paintings, sculptures, and drawings. He was one of the leaders of the Fauvist movement, characterized by the use of pure colors and a representation of the intensity of emotions. His work is based on simplification, stylization, and synthesis.

Regarding the valuation of his works, prices range from 150,000 to 300,000 euros for an early Fauvist painting by Matisse, while Fauvist canvases and Orientalist portraits from the twenties and thirties reach prices between 1 and 5 million euros.

Never framed and stored in dark archival storage between acid-free protective paper.
