Born in 1958 in Bên Tre, an authentic village nestled in the heart of the Mekong Delta, Nguyen Robert is a Franco-Vietnamese artist whose work is distinguished by a singular fusion between Asian traditions and Western artistic influences. From a young age, he was fascinated by the rural architecture of his surroundings, the lines of traditional houses, the volumes of floating markets, the shadows cast by the water palms — all elements that would become the basis of his visual language.
Having always lived in his homeland, Nguyen Robert developed, over the decades, a deeply contemporary, modern, and resolutely architectural style. His paintings explore structures, lines, urban rhythms and geometric abstraction, while retaining a poetic sensibility intrinsic to Vietnamese culture.
His dual heritage, Franco-Vietnamese, enriches his approach: he borrows from the West the rigour of modern compositions and the boldness of contrasts, while his Vietnamese soul injects softness, spirituality and fluidity into his works.
