Description from the seller
The Heroic Deeds on Land of the Netherlands is a well-known historical and military-historical work written by the Dutch historian, writer, and later Minister of War Johannes Bosscha (1797–1874). The work originally appeared from 1834 and describes Dutch military history and land battles from the earliest known times up to the nineteenth century.
Bosscha wrote this extensive work in a period of rising nationalism (shortly after the Belgian Revolution), with the aim of strengthening national consciousness and pride in the Dutch army. It complements the equally well-known maritime counterpart, Geschiedenis van het Nederlandsche Zeewezen by J.C. de Jonge.
The book series chronologically covers the major land campaigns and sieges, including the Eighty Years' War, the struggle against Louis XIV (the Rampjaar 1672), and the Napoleonic wars (such as the Battle of Waterloo).
This edition shows signs of use, but the four volumes are firmly bound and in good condition.
