Description from the seller
Elmyr de Hory (1906–1976)
Watercolor on paper. Hand-signed.
Original work by Elmyr de Hory, one of the most fascinating artists of the 20th century. The drawing depicts an elegant standing female nude, constructed through a delicate play of light and shadow that models the body's volume with extraordinary economy of means.
The composition reveals the artist's deep academic training and his admiration for French painting from the first half of the 20th century. The stylization of the neck, the serenity of the face, and the monumentality of the figure evoke the influence of Amedeo Modigliani, while the free handling of charcoal recalls the tradition of Henri Matisse and the School of Paris.
Elmyr demonstrates in this work that, beyond his famous ability to recreate the styles of other artists, he possessed a solid personality as a draftsman. The figure emerges from the paper through a subtle tonal modeling, where chiaroscuro takes absolute prominence and gives the composition great sensitivity and elegance.
Hand-signed by the artist in the lower right corner.
Technique: Charcoal on paper.
Condition: Very good.
